G’day, guys! Den here with episode or 193 of the How to Scale a Video Business podcast from the very, very chilly sunshine coast in Australia today. And I appreciate it. I mean, I have a lot of sympathy ’cause for the most part, we live in paradise with one where that all year, but when it gets cold, we do feel it and dewy whinge about it. Anyway, its funny how it, I have a chair in this from growing up and Scotland where it was cold a lot of the time and I’ve gone soft, but you no that’s okay. I’m willing to, to where that, I was just like being warm.
Den Lennie (42s):
So that we just finished our a weekly group coaching call. We have to calls a week at a fast one as for a us and Australia in clients’ and this weak, we were doing, we call what’s working now call. So on the third week of every month, we dived into what is working now or what is not that we had a, an amazing story of Sammy who had had a bit of a quiet spell. A few things had happened. Then his business got to hit a few unexpected Bill’s and a couple of jobs when and where, because of COVID scare. And it got them really digging deep into is business.
Den Lennie (1m 22s):
And we were just discussing today. The rollercoaster of running a business is that, you know, things can change very quickly in that what we sign up for me to run a business. You no, we don’t have a security of wa coming in consistently a like we, if you were employed, but what was really cool was he got really creative with an approach to live streaming. He has coming in, does livestreaming in south Australia. And he reached out to a few and groups on Facebook that were running events and he had some great conversations and his no, well in his ways to developing a fantastic relationship. And, and one of the things we discussed in the call today and was that, you know, you, you, you just have to be willing to move out of a comfort zone, two to step up and, and reach out for opportunities.
Den Lennie (2m 14s):
And that is something that can be very challenging to do when you’re working on your home. And thankfully, you know, Sam, he has the group and when he hit is rough spell, we rally around them and they basically said, right here is all the suggestions are the things you can do. And that is one of the most powerful aspects of the VBA is that hive mindset, you and your not on your own. And oftentimes these calls can be very powerful because you just hear one thing from someone else and they go, oh, I could try that. So a big up to Sammy for, for stepping up and really kind of jumping into opportunities that are available to him in this business. And, but that was it only the only, you know, one of the things we’re very big one in the group is that we were vulnerable as well.
Den Lennie (2m 59s):
You know, we, we, we don’t mind opening up and sharing when things aren’t going so well, especially around you. No, when things go wrong and mistakes happen. But what we do is we empathize with them the challenge. And then when we look at the solution, what are the lessons that can be learned? And you know, really the thing that makes the group’s or powerful it’s that hive mind I’m yes. This is phenomenal training. Yes. You got support and access to me. No, it really, as much as you want or need. And, but it’s the, it’s the getting together with other video business owners. It, it accelerates the growth of your busy day.
Den Lennie (3m 40s):
It is by a factor of 10. And cause instead of trying to figure stuff out yourself, you can literally paws the question to the group. And that is one of the things that I’m most proud of, of the community we’ve built. And it really has become a great community. And one of our amazing memories, bands just sharing an incredible quality templates that he’s been using it as business. And he’s recording a video and is making that template available to our members. And so, you know, there’s this power that in the group, no Caleb, for example, shared there, statement of works with a group and big congratulates, the Caleb, but in Sammy you have just had a baby, a little Quentin who he’s in his, having a month off, he was having a month off the business to be a father.
Den Lennie (4m 21s):
And that was something he only dreamed of a year ago. And, and he’s businesses been systemized and built to a point where has team in and Bailey is on the call today to one of his team members, you know, offering support and sharing with the group as well. So it really is a very powerful group. You know, I could go on, you know, Carlos, his is in, in, in the Bronx and New York and he’s the sharing, how he is targeting the health care space. In his tone, he is releasing is getting a lot of inquires for people to just wanting sets or photographs or a little bit of a media content. So he is walking in a way to provide that service to those clients, to, to start the conversation.
Den Lennie (5m 2s):
And then a new member, Corey, you just joined us from that central California whose who’s just joining the program. And he was excited to kind of, you know, how to help scale his business up. He wants to move down towards the beach with his wife and your, or that there are so many different types of members of the group, but, but everyone’s at the same goal, which has to, to build a better life for them and their family. That is one of our highest values and our objectives in the VBA. Yes. It’s about making money. Yes. It’s about growing your business, but it’s all with a purpose. We do everything with purpose. A I’m very proud of, of the group that’s become, you know, there are some phenomenal members with, in fact, everyone is a phenomenal memory in a way we have a very strict process for it, for inviting people in to the group.
Den Lennie (5m 47s):
That that is what it is really quite cool is like, you know, there is a really big sense of collective care and, and, and investment in each other’s businesses. So, you know, the, the, the hive mine shares wins, losses, successes, failures, and lessons, and M and, and as a result, you know, everyone walks away from each call when he fired up. And then the, all the calls go for about 90 minutes, sometimes a little longer, if we’re getting deep into conversations, the calls are always recorded. That transcribed my sister, it didn’t then edit the transcriptions. So you get is valid. They will resource. And oftentimes we’ll do role-play on a call when I we’ll talk about it, you know, as a process for moving a, a conversation along.
Den Lennie (6m 32s):
So if, for example, it could be talking to a prospect about a job and it can be going quite well, but we’ve got to make sure we, we Al for the sales position to actually get that conversation with a point where you can sell it to a client or key. So based on what we’ve discussed, how, how are we looking? Where, where do we go from here? And so I’ll often do role play on a call. And then, because it everything’s is transcribed at the member’s can take that role-play and literally turned it into a script, or you can use. And fact, and Joshua was sharing with us today that, that the sales script that we have in say the VBA has been really helping his teams to, to close more deals and follow a process. So it was so everything we do in say the VBA is built around processes to build our own systems.
Den Lennie (7m 17s):
’cause what we’re trying to do is to build a business that can ultimately operate to some degree without you being the main person, the main point of contact. And that’s the big shift you go from from being a freelancer to a business owner, it’s making sure your able to your transition out of being on the tools. And that can be very challenging and that, and it’s one of those things that everyone is constantly working on it, but I’m, you know, the truth is an and I’ll, I’ll say that again and again, and again, if you’re listening to the shore, wondering if this could be for you, then at the very least gestures, less jumps on a call and have a chat, because if it’s not for you, I’ll be starting to see you.
Den Lennie (7m 58s):
No, we’re not looking to acquire new clients at all costs. We want the right people. We grow in a fairly measured manner. We’re not in a spanning Lourdes and advertising trying to get anybody whose got money and to the group, because the group is Fil of, we need quite established businesses who are, you know, who’d been with us for quite some time. ’cause they see it as integral part of the business growth or having access to, to, to me and the other great minds and the group. And, you know, I, I, they are, they quite shy. So I, if I actually got them to tell me what, they’ve all kind of generated each month, th they probably wouldn’t share it. Cause then they’re not that kind of people, but, you know, th there are some big numbers being thrown around.
Den Lennie (8m 43s):
And so the, so the expectation, if you like the thin the atmosphere on the group is one of abundance of success of growth and, and seeing what’s possible, you know, you know, multiple tens of thousands of money is not uncommon in a group. You know, how many people are doing 30, 40 grand a month as, as a benchmark. And if you come in to the group at 10 grand a month, it’s quite inspiring seeing how you can get to 20 and even beyond, but we, we, we help you on that journey.
