Client story
How Ryan Spanger, twenty years in and now a coach himself, kept sharpening in the VBA
Ryan Spanger has run Dream Engine for over two decades and now coaches video businesses himself. He came into the VBA already successful, precisely because a mature business is the easiest one to let coast. His reason for being in the room says a lot: even at twenty years in, he wanted to keep learning.
Where Ryan started
Ryan came in from a position of strength: two decades in, a successful business, hard-won and well run. That is exactly the trap. As he puts it, once a business is mature the danger is doing the same things and getting the same results while the industry moves.
He did not want to coast. He wanted to keep finding the bits he was not yet aware of.
“There's a danger once your business is quite mature to just be doing the same things and getting the same result. But the industry's changing, business is changing, and I knew that I needed to be here to keep sharpening what I'm doing.”
Ryan Spanger, Dream Engine
The move
He came to be coached and to learn from the room, and put specific things to work: video on LinkedIn, interviewing his own clients about why they choose him, and staying in regular contact with past clients. All of it, in his words, powerful.
Ryan has since gone on to coach video businesses himself. It is worth knowing where he sharpened his own edge.
“Den really cares about the people he works with. Many people say this, but he demonstrates it through his actions.”
